Continuing April 2026 short-term course on “European Experience with Retail Banking Development in Commercial Banks”, students examined strategic management principles in modern retail banking operations.
Dr. Jiří Boháček presented a lecture on retail banking, where Czech banking sector was analyzed through contemporary management lenses. He began with macroeconomic context, highlighting positive indicators including low unemployment and steady GDP growth that fueled rising demand for financial services. Students identified major market players and a trend where customers migrate from traditional large institutions towards low-cost competitors.
Students also explored strategic management models, understanding how frameworks align the interests of shareholders, employees and clients. The lecture examined operational efficiency tools that enable banks to assess risk and optimize performance.
Managerial accounting practices and digital transformation towards smart banking solutions were highlighted. Students learned that retail banks must continuously innovate in order to meet customer expectations while maintaining profitability and regulatory compliance in a competitive marketplace.
